Explore the erosion of international society with leading experts

In 2026, the erosion of international society is no longer theoretical; it is a lived political, economic, and security reality.
This August, the Atlantic Council of the United Kingdom convenes a three-day Summer Seminar on International Affairs at Magdalen College, Oxford, designed for those who want to understand, discuss and contribute to the dynamics reshaping the international order.
In addition to our Keynote Address delivered by world-renowned academic Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, we are bringing together senior practitioners from NATO, the United Nations, OSCE, academia, and other international organisations.
Through expert briefings, off-the-record Q&As, and small-group seminars, you’ll deepen your grasp of foreign policy, diplomacy, and international security, whilst strengthening your CV, confidence, and network in the rare setting of one of Oxford's most prestigious colleges.
Themes
What We Will Explore
Across three days, the seminar examines:
-
The complex, interrelated systems that comprise our International Society today
-
NATO and the future of collective security in an era of fragmentation
-
The critical, yet lesser-known multilateral work of the United Nations
-
The power of Civil Society to combat institutional erosion in global governance
-
The future of international cooperation and alliance systems, and ACUK Recommendations for contribution at the individual and collective levels
Expect rigorous analysis, diverse perspectives, and informed debate grounded in real-world policy experience.

Format
How The Programme Works
ACUK is famous for honest, open debate, designed to give you an inside view of what senior practitioners really think, under Chatham House Rules. Designed for depth rather than scale, the seminar will comprise:
-
Keynote Address and Q&A via Live Link with Prof. Jeffrey Sachs
-
Presentations from the UN, NATO, the OSCE and senior academics
-
Infamous ACUK 'off the record' Q&A sessions
-
Contribution to ACUK Recommendations, to be broadly published
-
Additional networking through shared meals and collegiate conversation
Hosted within the historic setting of Oxford, specifically the magnificent walls of Magdalen College, the programme balances vigorous academic inquiry within a serene space for connection and reflection.
Places are intentionally limited to preserve quality of discussion.
